Toiling Lumberjacks

411.73

Toiling Lumberjacks by Dame Evelyn Glennie. Arranged for Marimba, for 4 mallets, in digital sheet music format.

The toiling back and forth pattern of the left hand depicts the heavy rolling of the lumbers whilst the weighty melody in the right hand suggests the strength and toiling of the lumberjack. The dark key of G minor gives this piece a cumbersome, heavy feel.

Originally from the Faber Music publication Perpetual Motion, a collection of 10 evocative pieces written for young pianists to explore and enjoy, these pieces have been transcribed for marimba or vibraphone by Dame Evelyn Glennie with the intention of concentrating on musicality:

'Each piece was conceived to focus on a particular technical challenge thus helping to develop your mallet prowess, but I also see them as little sound stories. These ‘stories’ can be developed in any way you wish by allowing your imagination and curiosity to take you on a journey of discovery!'
